A documentary by Gesa Hollerbach

The last remaining school closed, the last shop boarded up and not one doctor around. Throughout Germany and Austria, many small villages are fighting for their survival. But who is it up to to take the initative when the state can no longer guarantee equal treatment for everyone? We can! The people, the citizens, the volunteers from the countrysides. From self-developed local supply concepts to detailed visions for sustainable village life: this film depicts a rural microcosm fraught with civic breaches. Experience first hand how people take back their land and way of life: holes are dug, mail boxes stuffed and the conservative minded become comrades. But can politics really afford to lose a major source of its power? „We Are The Village“ traces these societal issues that suggest structural change is necessary and presents this change plausibly from various perspectives in Germany, Austria and the European parliament in Brussels. When equivalence no longer means equality then time is ripe for an overhaul of societal paradigms.
